Example Art
This is an example of how AR (augmented reality) can work with a portrait. It's a postcard from my cat telling me he needs more pets, and I can find him at his sleep spot. This is created in Adobe Aero, and requires installation of their app to use it.
How to Use the Adobe Aero Example
This example shows how augmented reality (AR) works using Adobe Aero. AR is a technology that adds digital elements—like images, animations, or sounds—to the real world when viewed through a mobile device. To see the effect, simply point your device’s camera at the QR code to download the application needed to view it. Next follow the prompt to find the anchor image shown here with your camera. You'll see rotating text and if you tilt your camera around the image the cat's eyes will follow you. Turn up your volume and pet him on your screen, you'll see him animate and hear him purr.
What Is AR?
Augmented reality combines the physical and digital worlds. When you use AR, the digital content is anchored to a real-world image or object. In our example, we use an anchor image serves as a guide for placing digital art, so it looks as if the digital elements are part of the scene you see. An anchor image is a marker that the AR software recognizes; once it does, the digital content appears right on top of the marker, blending with your surroundings.
A Quick Look at AR
AR is a fun and interactive way to experience art and technology. It allows you to see digital layers on top of everyday objects or scenes, creating a unique mix of reality and imagination. Our upcoming project will use Unity 3D to build a similar web app, letting you enjoy an AR experience through your browser. Whether you are new to AR or have seen it before, we hope this example gives you a small taste of how digital creativity can enhance the real world.
